Well isn’t it? I’m sure many have seen a plane with a bad paint job, and some may have even seen one without any paint! Scary looking, isn’t it? As airlines try to make their planes look attractive, we don’t realize it’s the struggle to make the plane good looking, with a lighter coat of paint, adequate to weather conditions. All this while trying to spend the least possible amount of money.
And while the standard livery of an airline will often greatly appeal to the eye, it’s the special and “dedicated” liveries that are the celebs of the airport hubs, runways and even the skies.
Swiss Intl. Airlines recently repainted one of their Airbus 319’s in a very “cannot make it more Swiss than it is right now” way, by simply multyplying the emblem from the tail and “photoshopping” it a bit.
Swiss’ neighbor and parent airline, Lufthansa spiced up it’s birds with a little work on the nose. GOL!!!!!!!!!!!
The most popular liveries however, must be retro “dos”. People seem to go wild about seeing US Airways’ PSA A319- and frankly I cannot blame them:
Now if there could only be a Kinglobjaw.com just clicK! livery,

As I am writing this, I am looking out the window and it’s the second snow of the season. The highway outside is moving, yes, but how very slowly! The twenty minute ride to my house will take 20+20+20+20+20+20 minutes, if not more! As annoying as I may sound, I am actually a huge fan of snow. I enjoy snow, and miss it greatly if it ‘fails’ to snow around this time of year. But as much I enjoy the snow, when I fly I rather the snow take a raincheck.
What’s very odd about the life of the King is that, he’s never actually flown in the presence of snow. I’m not trying to say I only fly in the Summer and to warm places, not at all! For the last couple of years, I find myself travelling around the months of November, December or January and February to and fro a place where it snows, and the wind heavily blows.
Truth be told, I’ve never encountered a snow related delay. I’ve never seen actual snow falling from the sky from the inside of a plane. I have seen the ‘leftovers’ on the side of the ramp- waiting to melt. I’ve never actually sat in a PHL Club, staring out the window seeing only above the wheels of the A321 that was supposed to take me to Ft. Lauderdale, but was cancelled due to weather.
So when I find myself clearing the upgrade, having already finished my cran-apple pre-dept drink, I would like to think my plane will be rotating to the sky! And then there’s de-icing. They turn off that engine so they can de-ice. I don’t mind, but for many the heat inside is unbearable. Please de-ice that plane, and send US(pun intended
, of course) on our merry way, and hope to see you again- just not today!
Will I be travelling, this Holiday season? Yes, of course! Will I be going through PHL? You, betcha! Will I be hoping to see snow so I can create a new photo album called “Birds stuck in the snow”? Yeah, no, but maybe on the way back!
